Women Making an Impact on Travel
Women have made a big impact in all areas of life, and travel is just one more in the series. Road and Travel Magazine recently reported that, "Women business travelers have increased by 5,000% since 1970, comprising 40% of all business travelers, a $56 billion market. Women influence 85% of all travel decisions." If anything, these statistics show us the great impact women are making on today's travel industry. It is suspected that the above statistics will double in 20 more years, as business travel among women is at an all-time high.
American Airlines has been catering to women travelers for a while now. Their website, http://www.aa.com/women, states on their front page, "We've listened to women and recognized the need to provide additional information tailored to your business and pleasure travel needs and lifestyle." Reuters news service recently reported that American Airlines could increase its revenues by "$94 million a year by tailoring some of its services to the growing number of women travelers."
Other strong influences catering to women travels include travel clubs, forums, magazines, and hotel services. In fact, hotels are accommodating women's needs right from the check-in points at the reservation desk to hotel maitre d's, and the hotel room itself. Some hotels have in-room spas and fitness centers, as well as body and facial treatments and exercise programs. Many hotel rooms, in recent years, have adopted better soaps, shampoos, and lotions to please women. Hotel mirrors are now larger, and powerful hair dryers have been installed. They now include skirt hangers, too.
Women are more concerned with security when they travel. This is another area whereby hotels are catering to women travelers. Many hotels are offering valet parking, security escorts to women during late hours, and providing a lighter, more secure, parking with attendants on hand to assist in case of emergencies.
Many hotels are now providing childcare and other accommodations to make women's lives easier when away from home. Some hotels hire out childcare services. Checking in advance with the hotel to find out specifically what sorts of activities are available for kids in their daycare program is wise, and will put your mind at ease.
Women have impacted the travel industry both on the road, nationally and internationally, as well as impacted the way retailers at home do business. Now on the shelves of retail stores, you're more likely to find travel-related products and better bargains on luggage, business attaché cases, portfolios, and etc., as well as a whole host of electronic and computer gadgets to make life simpler.
Just like women have made an impact in today's travel world, their personal worlds have experienced major adjustments, too. From home and domestic life to shopping and social life, women's lives have changed drastically over the years. Most families have been two-income homes for years now. Women are major contributors not only to the bank account, but also to important decisions made in the home. Perhaps women have it tougher as they are usually the primary caretakers, even when working full-time.
Women are impacting their own home and family lives by taking responsibility to make their marriages and family lives work, as they know being away from home can be tough on everyone.
The "traditional family" has changed as expenses have increased. Though some couples still long for the husband to be the sole or primary provider, sometimes life circumstances don't allow it.
The fact is women have made a big impact in all areas of life, and travel is just one more in the series.
