As Christmas and New Year’s approach, many are considering New York City breaks for the holidays. Let’s face it; New York is the perfect place to spend the holidays with family and friends. The bright lights, the city crowds, the gorgeous decorations, parties at every turn and all the romance that comes from the Big Apple, make New York City a top winter destination. What to do in New York for Christmas
Christmas tree lighting. Each year, in early December, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting is a popular choice for Christmas celebrations and gatherings. Even if you miss that event, going there with your family during your Christmas break is well worth your time. If you want to see all the lights around the Manhattan area, you can take a three-hour “Holiday Lights" Tour. Even better, take the "New York Holiday Lights Helicopter Tour” and see all the beauty and lights from a bird’s eye view.
Ice Skating at Rockefeller Center. Many romantic movies have been shot at the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center. This is a wonderful place to take your loved one during the Christmas break. Dress warm and enjoy the romance and excitement found at this outdoor extravaganza.
Empire State Building Observatory. Another fascinating place where movies have been made, the observatory gives you breath-taking views and is the perfect place to take a date or the family for an evening of “wow’s.”
Horse-drawn Carriage Rides through Central Park. Another romantic activity to enjoy in New York City is a horse-drawn carriage ride through the famous Central Park. Whether it’s lightly snowing or not, a ride like this sets the mood for the holidays.
There are many other fun and romantic activities to do in and around New York City. Go shopping on the strip, catch a show on Broadway, enjoy the heights and views at the Top of the Rock Observation Deck on the 70th floor of the Rockefeller Plaza, take a Manhattan Island Cruise, hop on board a double-decker bus and take a tour of New York City and enjoy the many museums and galleries throughout the city.
The question is what’s there NOT to do for Christmas in New York? Truly, you will fall in love with all the city has to offer you during the holidays.
