A trip down the Champs Elysees is encouraged when you visit Paris as this is the city's most famous street; if you want to see famous, designer label shops and the restaurants, this is the place. This avenue may be select but it attracts large numbers of visitors daily; top class hotels are found here, although if you want to stay at a more reasonably priced hotel, they are available outside of the city center.

If you are an art lover you will enjoy the Louvre, a truly amazing museum; it contains almost a third of a million exhibits and is in fact one of the biggest art museums in the world. There are enough art exhibits to keep you occupied for more time than your short stay in Paris would allow; the Mona Lisa is one such world famous work of art which should not be missed. Over the years, Paris has been home to many of the world's famous artists; the likes of Monet, Picasso and many others lived in the city for years and some of their work can still be seen today.

Of course, Napoleon commissioned the construction of the Arc de Triomphe, another Paris landmark; engraved with the names of generals that commanded his troops, it has become a popular photo spot for tourists visiting Paris. It also features an observatory to take in surrounding views; in particular those obtained along the lanes that lead from it.

This city has a huge variety of places to visit, many of these have not even mentioned here; these are however, the most popular with regular tours arranged, many of which are either free or at a subsidized cost. Unfortunately, short stays in Paris can be demanding on visitors; what you aren't able to this time will have to wait for another occasion.

Anyone who has been to Florida knows that you can't go far along the coast without having to stop and take in the white sandy beaches. New Smyrna Beach, Florida is one of those destinations where you can stroll down 13 miles of beautiful, warm, sunny beaches. There's so much to enjoy from sunbathing and swimming, to shopping and fishing. Treasure hunters are also found walking the coast in search of rare coins, lost jewelry and other treasures.

I've been to New Smyrna Beach twice and both times it was one of the most memorable vacations I've had with family. Being that I love seashells, New Smyrna is among Florida's best beaches for seashell escapades. I'd spend my morning hours walking the long stretch of the coastline in search of little treasures...I'd feed the gulls and get my exercise. Then I'd stop, have breakfast on the hotel balcony overlooking the ocean and dream. From there, I'd put on my swimsuit, go back down to the beach, set up a sheet and towel, lay out, swim and read.

New Smyrna Beach holds the distinction of being the second oldest city in North America, though some historians believe it to be older than St. Augustine. "As early as 2,000 B.C., Timucuan Native Americans inhabited the area of New Smyrna Beach. Their civilization thrived on the East Coast of Florida until being destroyed by war and disease brought by European settlers.The Timucuan population almost vanished by the time Dr. Andrew Turnbull, a Scottish physician and entrepreneur, settled New Smyrna in 1767, naming the area in honor of his wife, whose birthplace was Smyrna, Asia Minor (what is now Izmir, Turkey)," reports the New Smyrna Beach Visitor's Bureau.

The old city of New Smyrna has a lot of history to offer the history buff. It was the largest British colonization attempt in the New World, and it was also three times larger than the first settlement at Jamestown in 1607.

For those interested in history and seeing artifact, traveling through New Smyrna Beach, will be like going back in time. There are over 30 historical sites to engage visitors. They include: Sugar Mill ruins, found in both New Smyrna Beach and nearby Port Orange, The Old Fort and surrounding Old Fort Park, and the Eldora House in The Canaveral National Seashore. Visitors can learn more by visiting the city's Historical Museum and the Black Heritage Museum.

Where to stay

Truly, like any town, where you stay will depend on what's important to you. If you like bed & breakfasts, there are plenty to choose from. If you want a hotel overlooking the ocean, like I enjoy, there are many to choose from as well. Some condos and hotels come complete with kitchens and all the amenities. House rentals, many oceanfront, are perfect for longer holidays. Campers will find great RV parks and campgrounds so they can enjoy the outdoors.

Boating is a popular sport in New Smyrna Beach. Fishing boats, kayaks, motorboats, cruises and etc. love to launch from the New Smyrna Beaches. "From secluded estuaries to the vast Atlantic Ocean, boating adventures of all types await in New Smyrna Beach," adds the Visitor's Bureau.

New Smyrna is a perfect town for the writer who wants to get away and write that novel, or the artist who wants to paint the coast from the beach or a balcony, but mostly, it's the perfect location to take your vacation this summer or even winter. What to Do While in San Francisco: Pier 39 is Most Memorable

Several years back, I took a very memorable trip to San Francisco. It was my first time to the west coast and I was so looking forward to it. My only disappointment in San Francisco was the temperature! I had no idea how cold it could be there! In my mind, I was going to California and everyone knows California is known for year-round summers, beaches, sunshine and palm trees, right? Well, San Francisco is located on the bay and it gets lots of rain and cool temperatures! I learned the hard way! Don't do what I do and only pack a light jacket. Bring warm clothes!

Two friends and I from work decided to take advantage of a great special at the time from Van Guard Airlines. The cheap flights were amazing and on top of that, I belonged to a half price hotel club. As a result, we got to travel to a beautiful location and save tons of money.

From experience, I can say that San Francisco was one of my favorite travel destinations. Except for the wet weather and coolness, the trip was nearly perfect!

Your time on Pier 39 might be the most memorable of your trip. It was one of the best times for me. The Aquarium of the Bay has a diverse aquatic life of the San Francisco Bay and its surrounding waters, and provides a window to the Bay that focuses on its distinctive ecosystems and seeks to entertain, educate and inspire preservation of the wonderful natural resource. You can stroll through a 300-foot crystal clear tunnel where you are within inches of marine animals indigenous to the Bay.

The thrilling bay cruised took us all around the bay and was lots of fun...You can visit Alcatraz while you're on a cruise. One of my favorite things about San Francisco was the Sightseeing Trolley Hop that included a 1-hour narrated tour aboard the authentic motorized cable car. We drove through San Francisco's most scenic neighborhoods such as Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, Nob Hill, Downtown, Union Square, Chinatown, and Ghirardelli Square. Gateway to the Tropics

The remote beach stretches under a twilight sky. Waves laced with foam crash against isolated sand castles. The sea empties into shallow tide pools, leaving sand fleas and crabs to stir madly among seaweed and abandoned shells. This is Ormond Beach, Florida, when the mad rush of tourists is over, and the quiet solitude of a moonlit night inspires the poet in the best of us.

In the late afternoons, clouds move along forming dynasties in the heavens. Pelicans glide in the shape of a “v,” resembling that of an arrow pointing northward toward the shores of St. Augustine or Jacksonville. Near the old Ormond fishing pier, pigeons, crows, and seagulls gather to feast on left over bait from fishermen, and crumbs from an ocean side picnic a couple shared at dusk. Ormond by the Sea holds its own, and those who walk along its coast usually return to recapture the memories, and to once again taste the tranquility.

Ormond is a quiet, conservative town distinguished by souvenir shops, retired people, and travelers making their way through the Florida coast. Located in Volusia County, 90 miles south of Jacksonville, the nearly perfect climate, scenic beauty, and charm of this town have attracted vacationers and new residents for hundreds of years. Ormond is a suburb of Daytona and is known as the “Gateway to the Tropics.” This resort area has many large estates along both the Hallifax River and the ocean front. The area closer to the Atlantic is referred to as “Ormond by the Sea.”

History of Ormond

Ormond Beach's history can be traced back to English settlers and the Timucua Indians. Over the years the state had been claimed by many European nations and finally became part of the United States in 1819. In the 1700s and early 1800s, the area around the Halifax and Tomoka Rivers was occupied by large sugar mill plantations. The second Seminole War (1835-1842) put an end to the plantations. After Florida entered the Union and Volusia County was created in 1854, there were some 20 families living in the entire county. A few families from Georgia and the Carolinas started the Tomoka Settlement, which was at the west end of the present city limits. Their orange groves were destroyed in the big freeze of 1895-96.

Meanwhile, a group of families from New Britain, Connecticut,, started a retirement colony on the west bank of the Halifax River. They were former employees of the Corbin Lock Company and they called their new home New Britain Connecticut until they incorporated a city and named it Ormond in 1880. Two of the early colonists, John Anderson and Joseph Downing Price, built the Hotel Ormond, which opened its doors January 1, 1888. Henry Flagler bought the hotel in 1890, retaining Anderson and Price as managers, and also purchased the railroad, which had been brought into Ormond by Utley J. White. A bridge for rails and carriages was erected across the Halifax River so that Flagler's Florida East Coast Railway could discharge passengers at the entrance of the Hotel Ormond. Early in the 1900s, a visitor at the hotel discovered that the newfangled motor car could drive on the sands of the beach. In 1902, Ransome E. Olds and Henry Winton staged an unofficial race on the beach at Ormond. The following year the American Automobile Association brought in its timing equipment and Ormond Beach became the Birthplace of Speed.

Many famous and well-known men and women stayed during the winter months at the Hotel Ormond, including Flagler's friend, John D. Rockefeller. After a few seasons, however, Rockefeller bought a house across the street from the hotel, called "The Casements," and lived there until his death in 1937 at the age of 97. The Casements is now a cultural center for the city.

Ormond Beach has continued to grow. It now boasts some 35,000 residents and has expanded to the west and north. While continuing to recognize its heritage, Ormond Beach has become one of the state's finer communities in which to live.Source: Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce

Here people find the perfect place to embark from the world class cruise terminals aboard affordable cruises to exotic destinations. Who says you have to leave the US to enjoy a good summer vacation? Summers in the US are lots of fun and you don't need a passport to travel. In fact, many great summer vacations can be spent in your own backyard. That is to say, in your own state.

With gas prices so high, people in general are considering ways to save money when traveling. If you're used to driving across the country on vacation, consider traveling across the state only. Find places around your hometown or state where you've never been before. I know for a fact you won't be disappointed as I've done this several times and have totally enjoyed my day trips and weekend getaways. However, if you're someone who wants to hop on a plane and go to some cheap, warm vacation spots in the US, here are some places I suggest.

South Padre Island, Texas

This was a relatively cheap trip for us to take one summer. We happened to travel in August and it was VERY hot there, but we got a good discount on airfare and hotel and made it a 4-day trip. We saved money and stayed at a hotel that was just across from the beach, rather than on the beach. We rented a car and went shopping at all kinds of cheap places that had great shells, souvenirs and etc. We found lots of great, cheap Mexican restaurants that hit our spot. Mostly, we enjoyed the beach and just relaxing at the pool.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina has an allure that draws thousands of visitors every year, making it one of America's favorite vacation destinations. Besides the great beaches there, you can also enjoy shopping at area malls, boutiques, and specialty stores. Myrtle Beach,South Carolina gives you the chance to collect shells, sunbath, boat, surf, kayak, scuba dive, go parasailing and windsurf. They have 60 miles of beach to enjoy!

Daytona Beach, Florida

You can save a lot of money by traveling to Daytona Beach, Florida.
